The day has come to defend Dain in a battle of wits. The accusation comes from none other than the Majordomo of Valor, and the victim was Elias, the regent prince. The battle is fierce and it lasts all day. Several secrets are uncovered, and Dain is sentenced to a fine and a Trial of Survival.
The accusations
Because the party of The Unbound defend Dain in court, it is the court's privilege to add accusations and considering them as one unit of wrong doing. That said, instead of only being accused of Elias' murder, they are accused also of:
- Protecting an old member of Claw Noir, presently running from justice;
- Protecting an exiled man, guilty of murder and with a list of buildings and places in ruin because of him;
- Dain is accused of espionage for the Empire of Grym against the future country of Falanor
- The group is accused of murdering researchers of Rekhassa in Falanor territory
- The group is accused of a terrorist attack on Rekhassa's territory.
- Protecting someone who has no registry in none of the Empires in the country.
What was a simple mission, turned into a huge mess.
The Majordomo knows
Incredibly, not only did the Majordomo find people to help him in his accusations, but he had almost all-knowing knowledge of everything that had transpired in the last three months.
It was clear that he had deep connections within the continents' organizations and governments, and it was a formidable opponent. Marra, Hanio and Elynor were especially brave to be exposed by their secrets and sins in order to defeat their arguments, and even when faced with turbulent threats and accusations, they tried and stood tall.
Despite that, the Majordomo clearly had the higher ground. Nothing about him was known by the party, and his simple presence caused the spellcasters of the party to stand ready for battle.
The Fall
The last one to speak was the main target of the trial. Dain was falling in despair as the time passed, and his companions failed to focus on his innocence and on the main situation. But he had a plan, he was going to call the only person that could attest to his consciousness: his mother, Lirian Rykker.
As she stood on court, she talked about how selfless and enthusiastic her son is, and that he would always try to help people in trouble, which is why he enlisted the military so young. Everything looked like it was going according to plan, until the Majordomo took the witness for questioning.
A simple question crashed the whole reasoning: "Are you truly Dain's mother?". Lirian cried and Dain lost all sense of everything. She explained the Empire of Grym gave them a baby and they took him in as one of their own. So Dain was not really who he thought he was.
As the witnesses' time ended, Dain erupted in chaos and despair, blaming her for leading him on; blaming the group for failing in his defense; for letting him rot in jail for days; for feeling alone, truly Unbound.
The trial ended on this note, and Dain's mind was empty with voices echoing "Good... Now you see...".
The Verdict
Virelle was on the Unbound's side. But to create the country that was this close to happen, she had to be as fair she could. So, to ease Valor's demand for blood, but not condemn Dain to ruin, she recited an old Trial of survival to Eleron Mountain to the North.
Valor accepted. The Unbound accepted, and the business was concluded.
If they were to go and return in less than a week, the sentence would be considered fulfilled, otherwise the would be deemed guilty of all accusations.
