Founded by the God of Magic, Tir; this institution has a long history of being the lighthouse of knowledge for all continent. Because of that, politically, Mornir Academy has been neutral for years. Everyone that really wants to become anything enrolls in Mornir.

Introduction

Perched atop the southeastern cliffs of the Continent, overlooking the endless ocean below, the Academy of Mornir stands as one of the greatest centers of knowledge in the known world. More than a school, it is an independent settlement dedicated to the pursuit, preservation, and advancement of knowledge in every discipline imaginable.

Students travel from across the continent to master fields such as Arcana, Government, Nature, History, Engineering, and countless other scholarly pursuits. Admission is a privilege reserved for those who have earned their place, and graduation from Mornir is considered one of the highest marks of achievement.

The Academy remains largely closed to outsiders. Visitors may petition for an audience with the Academya—the council that governs Mornir—to present proposals or requests, but beyond these formal meetings, only students, faculty, and staff are permitted within its walls.

Demographics

Mornir is home to approximately 50,000 students, representing every major nation and culture across the continent. Supporting them is a permanent population of roughly 20,000 staff members, including scholars, craftsmen, guards, laborers, and administrators who ensure the Academy continues to function as a self-sustaining community.

Government

The Academy is governed by the Lore Master, who leads alongside the Academya, a council of senior professors and administrators responsible for every aspect of life within Mornir.

Students pay an annual tuition of 10,000 gold pieces, a fee that reflects the prestige and resources of the institution. Staff members, however, live within the settlement free of charge. While their financial compensation is modest, many consider the privilege of serving Mornir and contributing to its pursuit of knowledge reward enough.

Defences

Mornir is protected by eight heavily fortified towers, each permanently garrisoned by trained guards.

The Academy's massive gates remain closed to the outside world except under exceptional circumstances. Though its visible defenses are impressive, they are widely believed to conceal far greater magical protections whose nature remains one of the continent's best-kept secrets.

Industry and Trade

Unlike the great empires, Mornir maintains strict neutrality in continental affairs.

Its carefully managed farms, workshops, forests, and magical infrastructure provide nearly everything the settlement requires, making it almost entirely self-sufficient. This independence has allowed the Academy to remain outside the political ambitions of kings and emperors alike.

No empire has ever attempted to conquer Mornir. Whether out of respect or fear, rulers throughout the continent acknowledge that the Academy likely possesses magical defenses beyond anything seen elsewhere.

Infrastructure

Although scholarship defines Mornir, it remains a thriving settlement with all the necessities of daily life.

Visitors fortunate enough to enter its walls will find weapon smiths, item merchants, material suppliers, and bookshops scattered throughout the town. The settlement also boasts the welcoming inn known as The Open Book and the lively tavern called The Drunken Quill, where students and faculty alike gather after long days of study.

At the foot of the cliffs lies a modest shipyard used primarily by students studying naval engineering and shipbuilding. It remains closed to the public for most of the year.

Districts

The Town

The outer settlement houses the Academy's craftsmen, laborers, merchants, and support staff. Rustic homes, farms, workshops, taverns, and local businesses line its streets, creating the atmosphere of a quiet but prosperous village. Among its most beloved landmarks is a small bookshop operated by a retired professor whose passion for knowledge has outlived his teaching career.

The Academy

Beyond the town rises the Academy itself, an immense fortress protected by towering walls and enormous gates. Few outsiders have ever passed through its entrance, and fewer still know its internal layout. Within its walls stand lecture halls, laboratories, libraries, workshops, and countless specialized buildings dedicated to every branch of study.

The Tower

At the very edge of the sea cliffs stands the most mysterious structure in Mornir.

The Tower rises over fifty stories into the sky, its entrance sealed by a door that cannot be opened through ordinary means. Legends claim the Tower grows taller with each passing year despite no visible construction. It serves as the residence of the Lore Master and his scribes, who maintain the greatest archive of knowledge on the continent.

Guilds and Factions

The Academy itself is the dominant institution within Mornir.

Several major guilds maintain diplomatic embassies throughout the town, particularly those representing artificers, craftsmen, and laborers. These guild halls serve as centers where contracts are negotiated, commissions accepted, and skilled workers dispatched throughout the continent.

Architecture

The town surrounding the Academy embraces practical, rustic architecture built primarily from timber, stone, and thatch.

The Academy itself is an entirely different sight. Constructed from unidentified materials of remarkable durability, its halls combine medieval grandeur with imposing gothic design. Towering arches, intricate stonework, and vast courtyards create an atmosphere that inspires both awe and curiosity.

Geography

Mornir is built upon a rising coastal cliff overlooking the ocean.

The settlement begins near the shoreline, climbs steadily toward the Academy at its center, and culminates at the great Tower overlooking the sea from the cliff's edge.

Climate

The region enjoys predominantly sunny weather, though powerful thunderstorms frequently roll in from the ocean. Despite the violence of these storms, the Academy's buildings have withstood centuries of wind, rain, and lightning without significant damage.

Natural Resources

A carefully managed forest borders the settlement, providing timber and other natural resources while serving as an important educational site for students of nature and druidic studies. The woodland is maintained sustainably by the townsfolk, ensuring that it continues to flourish for generations to come.

Notable Locations

The Grand Library

A vast, multi-level repository of knowledge, the Grand Library houses countless ancient tomes, scrolls, maps, and magical manuscripts collected from every corner of the continent. Enchanted candles drift silently through the air, casting a warm glow across endless shelves and quiet reading halls.

The library is overseen by Archivist Thalina Moonshadow, who assists scholars in locating forgotten texts, deciphering ancient languages, and recovering lost knowledge from the Academy's restricted collections.

The Alchemy Laboratory

Filled with bubbling cauldrons, shimmering glass apparatus, and shelves lined with rare reagents, the Alchemy Laboratory is where theory is transformed into experimentation.

Under the guidance of Professor Mulvaney, students learn the delicate art of brewing potions, refining magical compounds, and safely experimenting with volatile ingredients gathered from dangerous regions of the continent.

The Training Grounds

The Academy's central courtyard serves as its primary martial training facility. Sparring rings, archery ranges, tactical diagrams, and combat dummies provide students with every opportunity to refine their skills.

Captain Erynn Dawnspear oversees both physical training and battlefield strategy, organizing tournaments and preparing students for the dangers they may one day face beyond the Academy's walls.

The Enchanted Forge

Constantly humming with magical energy, the Enchanted Forge is surrounded by glowing runes that empower its anvils and furnaces. Here, ordinary steel is transformed into extraordinary weapons and armor.

Rune-Smith Halgrim Stonemantle specializes in enchanting equipment and guiding students in the recovery of rare materials required to create legendary artifacts.

The Council Chamber

This circular chamber serves as the political heart of the Academy. A great oak table occupies its center, while tapestries depicting pivotal moments in Mornir's history adorn its walls.

Meetings of the Academya are held here under the leadership of Headmistress Varena Yrn, who directs the Academy's affairs and assigns many of its most significant expeditions.

The Garden of Tranquility

Hidden among the Academy's courtyards lies a peaceful sanctuary filled with exotic flowers, ancient trees, and a crystal-clear pond. Fireflies, pixies, and other harmless magical creatures often appear among the gardens, lending the area an almost dreamlike atmosphere.

Elder Lyra Silvermourn tends the gardens, offering healing, meditation, and spiritual guidance to those seeking clarity of mind.

The Hall of Artifacts

This secure exhibition hall safeguards relics gathered throughout centuries of exploration. Every artifact is carefully catalogued alongside records detailing its history and significance.

Curator Malthus Grayson oversees the collection and frequently commissions expeditions to recover newly discovered relics or safeguard dangerous magical objects.

The Mess Hall

The Academy's bustling dining hall serves thousands of meals each day. Long wooden tables, a roaring hearth, and the constant aroma of freshly prepared food make it one of the liveliest places in Mornir.

The kitchens are directed by Chef Brundir Goodbrew, whose hearty meals are famous among students and whose conversations often provide as much information as the Academy's lectures.

The Astral Observatory

Rising above the Academy, the Astral Observatory features a magnificent glass dome filled with telescopes, celestial charts, and arcane instruments capable of tracking the heavens.

Astrologer Faelar Luneth studies the movements of the stars, offering guidance on celestial events, magical alignments, and ancient prophecies that may shape the future.

The Shadowed Vault

Hidden beneath the Academy lies the Shadowed Vault, a heavily warded chamber accessible only through secret passages known to a select few. Within its reinforced walls are imprisoned cursed relics, forbidden tomes, and dangerous magical artifacts too perilous to destroy.

Its guardian, Warden Corwin Duskborn, ensures these objects remain sealed away while training trusted individuals to recognize and resist the corrupting influence of dark magic.
